Sleepless Hippo
... what a night! Change of weather can be very inspiring. Had that same feeling some days ago and did this drawing afterwards. Hope the weather won't change on a daily basis the next weeks and steady up a little.

Mousehouse
I wonder what happened to the mouse in the wall, we discovered a couple of weeks ago, as she ran from behind the stove across the kitchen up to the sink, to fetch some rose-fertiliser ... maybe she grew to a giant mouse .... I think of a HULK-mouse after having eaten the fertiliser --- blasting the walls.

SC 11 - The Big Picture
It seems, every other Sketchcrawl a certain subject comes to my pens ... last time,, on SC #5 (Pakistani Relief SC) I had oillamps and other cans or pots. This time, it happened after a while, that I mainly drew and drew my attention to people's bags ;-)
Well, if you want to see them detailed, please click on the pictures. I only could draw all of them within a range of two to five minutes as I was sitting at crossing first and later on at the main railway station forecourt ... and please do not forget to watch out for the rest of us at SC-Forum!

Teachers and Pandas
There is a colleague at my school, who is supposed to be using his expander in class ... well, he is no sports teacher, isn't he? No, he is teaching computers ... well, I came up with play of words. Saying: "The former panda (ex-panda) of Mr. S. from DO" ...

Summerstorm
frame 1 - Tell me a story from a storm
f2 - once upon a time it's been totally windless
f3 - suddenly
... woooow, it's been hot since a while. Football WorldCup is over. Desert's temperature is gone after six weeks (!!!!) ... what a summer. So now I could turn on the computer again, without giving us another spring of heat. And look, what I found: my pre-summer summerstorm-comic. See you soon again, sun, son?

Logo? Logo!
... did this first sketch for a vocational school in town.
Finally 'applied design' again.
The colours are the ones they use in their CI - the lettering isn't it yet. But close to it .. we'll see.

Animated Paperbacks
Jacamon and Matz somehow animated and added sound to one of their first comebooks frame by frame.
Wonderful idea.
Take a look and listen to the subversive sound here. To be read in an English or Dutch version.

Cherish or Perish
Enough of watching and reading? Cherish this music and listen to the lines! This isn't a suggestion - it's your duty. Don't ask what you rmusic can do for you. Ask yourself, what you can do for good music.

Urmel is back on screen
See how the illustrator was allowed to put his signature on a book's front cover - times are defintely changing .... and this one is the picture of the popular 'puppetized' TV-Show. Wonderful voices, still!

Had a second ...
... waited a second. So I tried out some new pens and pastell and scanned and posted and ... - Derwent Drawing Chocolate 6600 (outlines) - very nice and smooth; and a cheap but delightful Jaxell verde olivia chiaro 47712 the funny skin-tone he is having after his first flight to the moon - well nearly there, just wait a second and have a second ... you'll be there soon.

Is Beaver Behaviour Be(h)averiouristic?
Well, I've been of for a while - off the blog. And, yes, I had the chance to take off to Hamburg for a couple of days, to explore my new place to stay beginning summer 2007. Exiting! Yes, and as the city lays next to some waters, building lay on roads called Holzdamm (wood dam) - so a business school I went to visit laid on such a street, inviting me to make up a thank-you-card for some nice people I talked to.
Translation for free here: "The subtitle saying: lately at the Public Beaverschool Wood Dam." The teacher beaver saying: ".. well, let's put the question in other words: What is a wood dam made of?"

Time to travel again ...
.. I found one of these "ever-popping-up-where-I-have-been-to-maps" and finally tried out one for myself:
And I finally saw: yes, it's been a while since. You definetely should earn more money in less time, to have a money and time to take a round trip to some of the grey places in that map.

"I am a deeheentiist ..."
... Steve Martin and several others sang in the musical "Little Shop of Horrors". I did not, but I had some deeper insights into the dent-business, as I drew some illustrations for a prophylactic dent-learning-course. No, not for the dents - stupid - for children, who should learn about it.
This on above was a sketch not to be taken - chew gum after you eat and the dent-devils stay away. In fact they STAY away, 'cause the cannot move ...

reacting - creating
Enrico posted Walt Stanchfield's notes on taking notes. Talking about it he came up with a simile between the one who does takes notes or sketches and the one who doesn't. Saying the note taker is more active, whereas the others just react instead of acting and changing the world.
So just after having closed the blog it came to my mind, to shuffle the letters in those words,
so that passiv becomes activ,
reactors become creators,
and
reaction becomes creation.
Maybe that's why I feel better and powerful and acting when sketching - maybe in those moments I am acting instead of waiting for the things to come by - maybe I am creator (<-reactor) ...

Well it's been a while since, I have been here. Due to some kind of illness my plans unraveled kind of hard ...

NiPriCo *)
Thanks to Kathrin's tipps on one of here pictures I changed her inspiration a little - by accident. I mis-remembered the process and wiped nitro on an imprint (here: a pizza-card-board) and transfered it onto paper.
This picture you see, is a second print from the swashed cardboard: I kept it dry but drenched a sheet of paper with nitro and lay it on the packaging. So this is it ... colours are not 100% the same, due to scanning ;-)
And hereby I open up a contest on what kind of pizza was in that package. Take a guess and send me or post an answer - for mail look out at the end of the blog.

Sketchcrawl - The Blog
New Blog!
February 7, 2006 at 12:14 pmA new idea in the making, the SketchCrawl-Blog: a communal blog with different contributors. Focused on sharing everything about drawing out there in the field. Ranging from materials discussion: a new favorite sketchbook? a new find of a pencil? A great folding stool? -to thoughts, questions and even polls about sketching and journaling. What’s your favorite place to go sketch? What invariably catches yours and your pencil attention ?

Give us today the blog that we need, ...
... and forgive us our wrongs.
.. as a play of words I also changed the seemingly sounding German word for wrongs (Schuld) by the German word "Schund" - which means shoddy.
Why I did change the "Lord's Prayer" into a "Mainboard's Prayer"? No, not because of the uprising uproars against published and non-published Danish cartoons on Mohammed ...
... no, it's just because of an article Alex Ruehle wrote in the "Sueddeutsche Zeitung" Feb 3, 2006 on the internet's esp. blog's hype, developing to some kind of mystic salvation chitchat.

Drawing from life or a photo
Danny Gregory started a post on drawing from life or photography. This - besides my comments - is what came up in me a couple of days later and then briskly scribbled on a scrap paper: Click to enlarge and read.
